standout top-quality Alsace producer
about located in the heart of Alsace, the winery goes back to the 1700s, but Domaine Mann is a modern, contemporary producer with biodynamic practices started in 1997, farming 23ha of land. There is a range in style and price that shows an understanding of the land and fruit which the winery is farming. The labels are gorgeous and individual—in character with the wines themselves.
wines tasted
Crémant d'Alsace Brut Nature 2018 ($37)
Aged for 30 months on the lees in old barrels, it's a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as the local Auxerrois, which has naturally high acidity. 2017 also tasted. Fruity, floral, yeasty, balanced style.
“Tres Terres” Crémant d’Alsace 2020 ($39)
50% Auxerrois, 30% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay. 25 months on lees; smoke, spice, lees, toast, green fruit, red fruit, high acid, round texture.
“Infiment Fou” Crémant d’Alsace 2014 ($85)
High-end, 100% Chardonnay: both equally unusual for Crémant d’Alsace. Seven years on the lees. High acid, grainy, creamy, lees, spice, toast, delicious, mature. Could easily be confused for champagne.
