standout quality Crémant d’Alsace rosé

about The Wassler family is on to the seventh generation of winemakers, the latest being Mathieu who studied winemaking in Burgundy. The winery is based in the village of Blienschwiller in Alsace, where the Grand Cru of Winzenberg is located, noted for its granitic soils. The domaine is converting to organic practices, certified in 2023. Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris are all made, besides this tasty sparkling wine.

Crémant d'Alsace Rosé NV ($24)

Made from Pinot Noir, this sparkling rosé is made using the traditional method, aged on the lees in the bottle for 12 months after going through malolactic fermentation. This is a fun, approachable, fruity style of sparkling wine, ideal for the summer months.

retasting the new release is based on the 2020 vintage (rather than the 2019) and is made in leaner, more austere and acid-driven style with a paler colour. It remains appealing with floral, red fruit aromas but a more food-friendly wine.
