standout classic but modern Alsace
about Félix Meyer is the third-generation winemaker at a domaine founded in the nineteenth century. He took over in 1992, expanding the winery and gaining an international presence and reputation while remaining true to the traditions of the region. The wines are aged in old, large oak barrels (foudres); fermentation is with indigenous yeasts; and no chemicals are used in the vineyard.

“Brut Extra” Crémant d’Alsace NV ($28)
The wine comes from a one hectare vineyard, the vines planted in 1972 and 2009. The first fermentation finishes mid-March, and then the wine is put in bottle for a second fermentation which takes two to three months to capture the bubbles. After that fermentation is complete, the wine stays in the bottle for twelve months. After removing the lees, there is a very small dosage for a dry style of sparkling wine. Youthful, fresh, aromatic style.
