standout generational meunier

about Thierry Forget's family started growing grapes back in 1888, selling to bigger producers; his grandfather excavated the cellars in the 1940s; and in the 1960s, his father married Denise Chemin and her name was added to the label. A great example of how small Champagne families evolve with each generation. Only recently imported into the United States for the first time, they work with all three Champagne grapes, though unusually for Montagne de Reims 70% of plantings are of Meunier.

Marie Forget Premier Cru Brut NV ($85)

The grapes come from four neighbouring villages: the Grands Crus Verzenay and Mailly-Champagne and the Premiers Crus Ludes and Chigny-les-Roses. There is dosage of 8g/L which balances both the natural depth and acidity of the wine. The name comes from Thierry and Denise’s daughter Marie, continuing the generational theme to the family’s traditions.
