standout no malolactic fermetation; oldest producer in Champagne
about Gosset is the oldest existing winery in Champagne, dating back to 1584 (well before Champagne was sparkling). The winery is located in Aÿ, sourcing fruit mostly from Premier and Grand Cru villages. Every wine is tasted blind before blending, rather than following an exact "recipe." The wines are usually aged for considerable periods of time before disgorgement, giving the wines a notable lees texture balanced by the racy acidity which is retained without the use of malolactic fermentation.

Grande Réserve Brut NV ($60)
The Grande Réserve is based on the 2015 vintage, with the reserve wines coming from the previous two. It spends three years on the lees before bottling with 7g/l dosage. Gosset uses no malolactic fermentation, the small amount of sugar balancing the racy acidity. This makes the wine fruity and lean at the same time.
Grand Millésime Brut (Vintage) ($90)
59% Pinot Noir, 41% Chardonnay, 4g/l dosage. Comes from twelve villages. A rich style, balanced by high acidity.
Celebris (Vintage) ($200)
54% Chardonnay, 46% Pinot Noir, with 4.8g/l dosage. Always vintage. Made in both Brut and Extra Brut styles. Comes from eleven villages. Created in 1988, first released in 1995. Latest release is 2008: the high acid, absence of malolactic fermentation, and just-ripe fruit aromas make it a particularly ageworthy wine.
