standout a little bit of Pinot Précoce

about established in 2008 by Simon Robinson, with fruit sourced from their estate in Hampshire and elsewhere in England. Until 2022, Emma Rice was the winemaker before Rob Muccolugh succeeded her. Only fifteen years old, this is a winery committed to research in soils, sustainability, and of course quality.

wines tasted

Classic Reserve NV ($60)

47% Chardonnay, 32% Pinot Noir, 19% Meunier, 2% Pinot Précoce. 15% barrel fermentation adds weight to the wine, with partial malolactic fermentation softening the acidity. Four years lees ageing, and 3g/l dosage. A very good introduction to English wine, with high acid, green and citrus fruit aromas, and a light creaminess.

Rosé (vintage) ($70)

66% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier, 1% Pinot Précoce. 20% barrel fermentation, malolactic fermentation mostly blocked. The Pinot Précoce is vinified as a red wine and added for colour. Two years on the lees. Gently fruity, the red fruit aromas balancing the naturally high acidity.
