standout traditional Bugey
about Patrick and Catherine Bottex are based in La Cueille, one of seven villages in the high altitude Bugey appellation. The soils are rocky limestone on slopes above the river Ain. Since 1991, they have farmed 5ha for small production of Bugey sparkling wine and rosé. Their son Carl is now part of the winery.

“La Cueille” Bugey de Cerdon NV ($27)
90% Gamay, 10% Poulsard, from vines planted between 1960 and 2010. Very classic, refined Bugey, with bright red fruits, sweet spices, and wild flowers. Sugar varies according to acidity to provide balance; it can be anywhere between 40 and 60g/l.
