standout fifth-generation, up-and-coming producer

about descended from eleventh-century Irish immigrants, the Brocard family began making champagne in 1932. Thibaut Brocard took over in 2012 (the winery’s name comes from his father), after working in Burgundy for five years. There are eleven parcels on six and a half hectares of vineyard plantings. Native yeasts only for fermentation. Thibaut’s aim is for the wines to reflect precisely where they come from, while remaining eminently drinkable.

Tradition Brut d'Assemblage NV ($60)

75% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Blanc, 5% Chardonnay. 70% of the base wine is vintage (2019), with the remainder from a solera system started by Pierre Brocard in 1991. 24 months on the lees, 4g/l dosage. A fruity, fun, forward style, very approachable, with an acidic backbone.
