standout Pinot Noir based wines from Côte des Bars

about founded in 1846 by Claude-Joseph Devaux with her son François-Auguste. His wife Augusta-Marie Herbin took over in 1879 until her death in 1895. A third widow, Marguerite Marie-Louise, took over in 1907, until her death in 1951, succeeded by her two sons. Pinot Noir is the focus, typically for the region. The winery is beginning to convert to organic farming. The wines are well made and classical for the region, though lacking excitement.

Blanc de Noirs Brut NV ($50)

100% Pinot Noir, aged for three years. Made from 15-20 year-old vineyards. 20-25% reserve wines. 8g/l dosage—probably not necessary in the warmer climate of Côte des Bars. Fruity style, leesy nature, but a little too sweet.
