standout family of Champagne growers; own label started in 2008

about based in Les Riceys in Côte des Bars, Elise Dechannes started her own winery in 2008 with a commitment to sustainability and an ethical relationship with the land. Eight champagnes are made, mostly from Pinot Noir although with a little Chardonnay, including a 100% version. Most of the wines are vintage based, if not dated as such.

“Essentielle” NV (€48)

100% Pinot Noir, bottled in June 2021 and disgorged in October 2022: the comparitively short lees ageing fails to add substance or complexity to what is quite a straightforward wine, redeemed by zippy acidity. Pale orange colour, presumably from a short maceration rather than addition of red wine.
