standout lean but fruity style
about The business was established by Emile Goutorbe as a nursery, propagating cuttings while working as vineyard manager at Pierre-Jouët. His son Henri continued the nursey business, while also making and selling his own champagne. The winery was expanded and modernised by his son René. There are 25ha of vineyards. Majority of plantings are Pinot Noir (70%), with the rest made up of Chardonnay and a tiny amount of Meunier.

Cuvée Prestige Premier Cru Brut NV ($58)
70% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 5% Meunier: a blend which reflects Goutorbe’s plantings. The Pinot Noir comes from two villages: the Grand Cru of Aÿ and the Premier Cru of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. The Chardonnay comes from the Premier Cru Bisseuil. Three-quarters of the wine is vintage, the rest reserve. Three years on the lees. A fruity, dry style with the Pinot Noir influence evident, with a lean structure and a lees-influenced texture. Classic example of Pinot Noir champagne.
