standout petit négociant

about Maison Foucher is a "petit négociant," which is to say a small merchant rather than an actual winery. It was founded in 1921, and is now owned by the third generation. That hundred-year history in the Loire means that the family has access to top-quality fruit. Furthermore, the blends are selected by Jean Mounard, a former Parisian wine merchant who has years of experience tasting some of France's finest wines.

"Cuvée des Roys de Naples" Brut Rosé NV ($18)

From sustainably farmed fruit, this tasty, easy-going sparkling rosé is mainly Pinot Noir with some Cabernet Franc from the Touraine and Saumur-Champigny regions in the Loire. It's made using the traditional method so there is a little spiciness from lees contact, but this is all about fresh, vibrant fruit. Incredible value for the quality.
