standout lean Pinot Noir from Verzy
about Sébastien Mouzon is the ninth-generation winemaker, taking over in 2008, his first vintage 2009. The winery is located in Verzy, with 7ha of vineyards almost all within the village. 60% of the plantings are Pinot Noir, the rest mostly Chardonnay, with historical varieties Fromonteau, Arbane, Petit Meslier, and Pinot Blanc in small amounts. Certified biodynamic. The style, despite being Pinot Noir based, is lean and elegant with a subtle generosity: a reflection of Verzy’s position and aspect.

“L’atavique Tradition” Verzy Grand Cru NV ($62).
65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay. Almost a vintage wine, with three successive vintages blended together. Three years on the lees. A lean, acid-driven style, with an attractive, engaging floral nose. A wonderful, subtle expression of Pinot Noir based champagne.
