standout Gamay-centric Loire
about Domaine Sérol was established in the 1950s when Robert Sérol bought abandoned vineyards (which the family continues to do). His son Stéphane took over in 1996, and runs the winery with his wife Carine. They farm biodynamically, with many other crops also planted. In one of the lesser known Loire regions, the slow, careful expansion of plantings from 12ha to 30ha shows ambition as well as a commitment to quality and sustainability.

Turbullent (vintage) ($27)
The wine is made méthode ancestrale: fermented to around 7% ABV before going into bottle where the fermentation continues but does not complete, hence the small amount of residual sugar. This also means the wine has 5 bars of pressure, rather than the 6 usually found in traditional method sparkling wine. It's disgorged to remove sediment for a clean, fresh, immediately friendly style.
