standout contemporary producer with old vines

about Denis Varnier was the third generation winemaker, in charge of the estate for nearly thirty years. After his death, his wife Valerie took over in 2017 and all the current releases are solely under her charge. She works with vines as old as 75 years, almost all Chardonnay (the rosés are just 5% Pinot Noir), for a richer, fuller, but still lean style.

Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut NV ($68)

From four Grand Cru villages: Avize, Cramant, Oiry, and Oger. Aged for two years. 10g/l dosage: the style is quite rich and full, but the acid adds a lean edge.
