standout German sparkling Auxerrois
about tenth generation winery in the heart of Rheingau, practising biodynamic since 2004. Peter Jakob took over in the 1970s, moving the winery towards drier styles of Riesling in the 1990s and careful, sustainable viticulture. Member of the VDP, and one of the leading Rheingau producers. Two sparkling wines made.

Brut Nature 2019 ($30)
Auxerrois, plus Weißburgunder and Chardonnay. Typical of the neutral character of Auxerrois (usually found in Alsace), with complexity coming from lees texture and bruised apple aromas. Acidity is naturally high and the lees give the wine some depth.
