“Suez” Brut Nature Riesling 2015 (€30)

Perhaps an example of how long-aged sparkling Riesling can lose varietal characteristic and end up being too lees-influenced. Soft, slightly funky cheese the overriding mouthfeel. Named “Suez” because the winery’s Riesling was poured at the opening of the canal in 1869.

Forster Pechstein GG 2013 ($50)

Eight and a half years on the lees, with a total of 2,000 bottles produced with gradual release. Single-vineyard (classed as a Grosses Gewächs), from just over 4ha of plantings on volcanic and basalt soils. A serious, dry, mature wine that shows Sekt can express site as much as still wine.

Rosé Prestige 2014 (€52)

100% Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). Extremely pale in appearance, barely a rosé. Lots of mature lees aromas, but still very fresh with high, lively acid.
