standout leading Franciacorta producer

about founded in 1977, with 207ha of land now owned. One of the more widely found Franciacorta producers, with a full range of wines made which are a great introduction to the region. The label changed ten years ago to bright orange, which doesn’t reflect the subtle quality of the wines but does make it easy to spot. Website and shop-window presentation is quite lavish.

wines tasted

“Alma” Grand Cuvée Brut NV ($40)

79% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Nero, 1% Pinot Bianco. 5g/l dosage. Fruity but elegant, an appealing alternative to champagne (think Montagne de Reims rather than Côte des Blancs).

Satèn (vintage) ($50)

First made in 1982. 100% Chardonnay. Four years on the lees. Light, delicate, possibly Bellavista’s best wine in a style unique to Franciacorta.

Rosé Brut Millesimato ($45)

60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, Four years on the lees. Gently fruity with mature mushroom, truffle aromas.
