standout high-quality Asti
about Asti (unlike Moscato d’Asti) isn’t often associated with quality, but La Caudrina show that it can be good. They make both Moscato d’Asti and Asti, and are one of the few producers to take the latter seriously. The winery was established by Romano Dogliotti, with his sons Alessandro, Marco, and Sergio, and his wife Bruna all part of the project.

“La Selvatica” Asti ($20)
It’s hard to find much Asti better than this wine: sweet, frothy, low alcohol, grapey, and fruity. Not overly complex, but with more freshness and elegance than commercial Asti. The cute label was designed by Romano Levi, an artist and grappa producer who was a friend of the family.
