standout sparkling Cloudy Bay
about first made in 1987, Pelorus is the sparkling wine label for Cloudy Bay, the best-known Sauvignon Blanc producer in Marlborough. The sparkling wine is lesser-known but it’s a very good example of the potential for traditional method wines in the cool to moderate climate of coastal Marlborough. If Sauvignon Blanc weren’t so dominant, more sparkling wine would—and should—be made.

Pinot Noir/Chardonnay. Two years lees ageing. A dry, rich, round style, balanced by crisp acidity. Very good example of how New Zealand wines lie in between cool and moderate climate.
