standout hybrid pét-nat from Finger Lakes

about locals David and Melissa Pittard bought the Buttonwood property in 2014, Dave having grown up on an orchard where cider, vodka, and apple-based wine were made. An ambitious, award-winning Finger Lakes project, although awards are more for Riesling than for sparkling wine. A sparkling Gewürztraminer is made, as well as semi-sweet sparkling Riesling.

Melody Pét-Nat 2021 ($20)

Melody is a hybrid crossing of vitis labrusca, vinifera, lincecumii, and rupestris, with ancestors including Seyval Blanc, Pinot Blanc, and Ontario. It’s winter hardy and produces vinifera-like wine. This is a perfectly approachable pét-nat, with just over 5g/l sugar, fruity and floral, not dissimilar to a good prosecco.
