standout old-school, high-volume California

about the California wine scene is very different from when producers like Cook’s dominated. The wines are mass produced, found in supermarkets, and extremely inexpensive—explaining their appeal. The wines are still labelled as “Champagne”—the winery was established in 1859 by Isaac Cook, and is marketed as California’s first Champagne. Made with the tank method in a medium-dry style, the wines make the worst prosecco taste good.
