standout leading txakoli producer

about the Ameztoi family have been making wine in Basque country since 1860, but the first commercial vintage was in 1999. In the 1990s, they were one of the families leading the push to make txakoli part of the overall Spanish classification system so the wines could be sold and marketed outside the area. Now, they're considered one of the best producers with a new tasting room and an on-site hotel.

"Hijo de Rubentis" 2016 ($31)

“The son of Rubentis," this is the sparkling off-spring of Ameztoi’s rosé. Ameztoi has been expanding the range to include sparkling wine, and given the naturally high acidity of the wines it's a natural fit. The wine is made using the traditional method, aged on the lees for 24 months. It's made from Hondarribi Beltza, the local black grape which is related to Cabernet Franc.
