standout the “805”
about like many modern Australian wine producers, there’s an agricultural background—although in the case of Cathy Gairns, it’s also horticultural. She gained her degree in Agriculture and Horticulture in 1985, moving to Tumbarumba from Melbourne in 1987. The initial focus was on flowers and strawberries, but in 1993 vines were first planted, Pinot Noir followed by Chardonnay and Meunier in 1995. With the assistance of top sparkling wine producers, including Ed Carr, the Courabaya winery has quietly developed a high reputation in Australia, even if the wines aren’t well-known outside the country.
